FG RELEASES GUIDELINES FOR REOPENING OF SCHOOLS

The federal government has released guidelines schools and learning facilities must meet before being allowed to reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic. The guidelines were contained in a 36-page document submitted to the Senate by the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, The Nation reported.

 

The ministry of education said schools are also to establish and adequately equip clinics.

The document obtained titled: Guidelines for schools and learning facilities reopening after COVID-19 pandemic closure, mandated that schools must create immediate temporary COVID-19 isolation space before they can be considered to reopen.

The ministry of education also stipulated the need to maintain and improve upon distance learning programmes. Schools were further asked to establish and adequately equip dispensaries and clinics. The government said the conditions were important for implementing safe, efficient, and equitable plans for school reopening and operations. Meanwhile, as Nigeria grapples with the ongoing global pandemic, Zamfara state government is set to begin using television and radio to air lessons for its students and pupils following the closure of schools as a result of COVID-19 lockdown. According to Daily Trust, the northern state in conjunction with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Ministry of Education will be supporting the production and airing of lessons via the Zamfara state radio and television and NTA Gusau. The objective of the e-learning system is to keep children busy with their books instead of staying idle following the suspension of school activities in the state. Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu Maradun, the SUBEB executive chairman, explained that the major idea of the e-learning platform was to assist children in continuing their education at home.

According to him, the exercise will hold through various news stations at different hours every day. Maradun noted that SUBEB has already spent over N5 million and is prepared to spend more in order to ensure children at home kept learning. The chairman said even when schools reopen, SUBEB would continue to support the delivery of the e-learning contents.
