10 Football Clubs Who Have Won the Most Trophies From Europe's Top 5 Leagues
10 Football Clubs Who Have Won the Most Trophies From Europe's Top 5 Leagues
To compose a definitive list of all the clubs with the most ever trophy wins of all time is always gonna be a tricky task.
For professional teams
lifting major trophies, it seems that Rangers lead the way, amassing an
incredible 115 pieces of silverware to fill their cabinets.
Incidentally, their bitter rivals Celtic follow with 106 trophy lifts
themselves - though that's not to suggest there's a duopoly on Scottish
football or anything like that, right?
But to simplify things,
here's a list of the top 10 most successful trophy-winning teams from
Europe's top five ranked leagues (England's Premier League, France's
Ligue 1, Germany's Bundesliga, Italy's Serie A and Spain's La Liga).
10. Atletico Madrid (32)

League Championships: La Liga x 10
Continental Trophies: European Cup Winners' Cup x 1, Europa League x 3, UEFA Super Cup x 3
Domestic Cup Wins: Copa Del Rey x 10, Supercopa De Espana x 2, Copa Eva Duarte x 1, Copa de los Campeones de España x 1
Other: Intercontinental Cup x 1
Atleti have amassed 32 major trophies in their history, most recently lifting the 2018 UEFA Super Cup after beating local rivals Real Madrid
in the fixture which pits the winners of the previous season's
Champions League and Europa League competitions against one another.
9. Internazionale (39)

League Championships: Serie A x 18
Continental Trophies: European Cup/Champions League x 3, UEFA Cup x 3
Domestic Cup Wins: Coppa Italia x 7 , Supercoppa Italiano x 5
Other: Club World Cup x 1, Intercontinental x 2
In recent times Inter
have looked like a shadow of their former selves. A quick look at the
club's illustrious history will explain just how far from their best the
Italian giants have been over the past decade - with 18 Serie A wins
and a hat-trick of Champions League titles they are one of Europe's most
historic clubs.
Disappointingly,
however, their last major trophy came way back in 2011. Two goals from
Samuel Eto'o and another by Diego Milito helped the club on its way to a
seventh Coppa Italia.
8. Arsenal (45)

League Championships: First Division/Premier League x 13
Continental Trophies: UEFA Cup Winners' Cup x 1, Inter-Cities Fairs Cup x 1
Domestic Cup Wins: FA Cup x 13, League Cup x 2, Community Shield x 15
Other: 0
Next we have one of the stalwarts of English football. On top of winning the Premier League on three separate occasions, Arsenal
are also the only team to have completed a season without losing a
single game - a feat they managed in 2003/04 with their 'Invincibles'
side.
The Gunners also hold
the record for the most FA Cup wins, a competition which they have won
on three of their last five attempts. Incidentally, no manger has won
that trophy more times than Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman lifted it seven
times during his 22-year spell with the club.
7. A.C. Milan (48)

League Championships: Serie A x 18
Continental Trophies: European Cup/Champions League x 7, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup x 2, UEFA Super Cup x 5
Domestic Cup Wins: Coppa Italia x 5, Supercoppa Italiana x 7
Other: FIFA Club World Cup x 1, Intercontinental Cup x 3
One of the most revered
clubs in world football, I Rossoneri have spent the vast majority of
their 118 year history at the very top. Only Real Madrid have won the
Champions League/European Cup on more occasions in the competition's
entire history.
Much like their blue and
back city rivals, A.C. have struggled in recent times. And though they
did win the Supercoppa Italiana not too long ago in 2016, they have not
topped the league since 2011 - succumbing like the rest of Italy to the
dominance of Juventus.
6. Liverpool (60)

League Championships: English First Division x 18
Continental Trophies: European Cup/Champions League x 6, UEFA Cup x 3, European Super Cup/UEFA Super Cup x 3
Domestic Cup Wins: FA Cup x 7, League Cup x 8, Community Shield x 15
Other: 0
Despite the incredible success Liverpool
have had in the game - no British club comes near them on the European
stage - they have famously never claimed a Premier League title since
the First Division's rebranding in 1992.
But who knows, maybe this season could be their year...
5. Manchester United (66)

League Championships: First Division/Premier League x 20,
Continental Trophies: European Cup/Champions League x 3, European Cup Winners' Cup x 1, Europa League x 1, European Super Cup x 1
Domestic Cup Wins: FA Cup x 12, League Cup x 5, Community Shield x 21
Other: Club World Cup x 1, Intercontinental Cup x 1
Despite the recent racket caused by their noisy neighbours, United
still sit safely in the lead as English football's most successful
side. But if you're going to talk about the trophies won by the club,
it's best to acknowledge Sir Alex Ferguson.
During his 26 years with
the Red Devils he won 38 trophies - this included a record 13 Premier
League titles, on top of five FA Cups and two Champions Leagues. No
wonder it's been so hard to find a replacement.
4. Juventus (66)

League Championships: Italian Football Championship/Serie A x 35
Continental Trophies: European Cup/Champions League x 2, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup x 1, UEFA Cup x 3, European Super Cup/UEFA Super Cup x 2,
Domestic Cup Wins: Coppa Italia x 13, Supercoppa Italiana x 8
Other: Intercontinental Cup x 2
Juventus
are Italy's most successful team. They have more first division wins
that any other side. Their recent history did suffer a murky patch when
the side was relegated to Serie B in 2006/07 following the 2006 Italian
footballing scandal. But, despite beginning that season with a nine
point deficit, they still won the league title.
Now back in the top
division, the Old Lady seems full of life. They have won the last seven
Serie A titles consecutively - it seems unlikely that they'll fail to
make it eight in a row this time round.
3. Bayern Munich (72)

League Championships: Bundesliga x 29
Continental Trophies: European Cup/Champions League x 5, UEFA Cup x 1, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup x 1, UEFA Super Cup x 1
Domestic Cup Wins: DFB-Pokal x 19, DFB/DFL-Supercup x 7, DFB-Ligapokal (German League Cup) x 6
Other: Club World Cup x 1, Intercontinental Cup x 2
If you're ever in
Munich, go the Allianz Arena and take a tour of the Bavarian club's
trophy room. It is incredible, and with 70 major title wins accredited
to the club you'll understand why.
To give you an idea of just how dominant Bayern Munich
have been, in Germany the club with the second highest amount of
silverware is Borussia Dortmund - BVB have just 20 titles to their name,
that's 50 fewer than their biggest rivals.
2. Real Madrid (90)

League Championships: La Liga x 33
Continental Trophies: European Cup/Champions League x 13, UEFA Cup x 2, UEFA Super Cup x 4
Domestic Cup Wins: Copa Del Rey x 19, Supercopa de Espana x 10, Copa Eva Duarte x 1, Copa de la Liga x 1
Other: Club World Cup x 4, Intercontinental Cup x 3
Real Madrid
are synonymous with silverware. As dominant on the continent as they
are at home, Los Blancos have won 13 European Cups - more than any other
side by some distance.
The team from the Spanish capital have also won La Liga more times than any other club in the competition's history.
1. Barcelona (95)

League Championships: La Liga x 26
Continental Trophies: European Cup/Champions League x 5, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup x 4, UEFA Super Cup x 5, Inter-Cities Fairs Cup x 3
Domestic Cup Wins: Copa del Rey x 30, Supercopa de España x 14, Copa de la Liga x 2, Copa Eva Duarte x 3
Other: FIFA Club World Cup x 3
Topping the list as the most successful side from Europe's top five leagues is Barcelona.
The classy Catalonians have dominated European football like no other
side. This success has been carried through the vast majority of the
club's history, but ever since a certain Argentinian made his first team
debut, Barça have enjoyed a period of frequent triumph.
Indeed, before Lionel
Messi broke into the first team the Blaugrana had 62 trophies to their
name compared to Real Madrid's 72. The mercurial talent quickly helped
his side make up that ten trophy deficit and even surpass it to leave
the club with their astonishing current major trophy count of 90. That's
some legacy. 10 Football Clubs Who Have Won the Most Trophies From Europe's Top 5 Leagues
